Artist Statement

Creating art provides me with pure excitement.  I get the opportunity to create something from nothing. Looking at a blank canvas before I start is like starting an adventurous inspirational journey that is always unique.

I get a deep sense of satisfaction when a painting is complete, which is quickly replaced by an intense desire to begin the next one. The experience is not unlike the childlike wonderment of creative freedom and discovery.

My hope is that my artwork connects with viewers on some  emotional level and has the ability to evoke a feeling of transcendence.

Biography

At the age of five, I began expressing myself artistically. I began drawing animals and fantasy images that reflected active imagination.

My parents and siblings supported and nurtured my artistic endeavors when I was growing up in Cockeysville, MD a suburb of Baltimore.

My artwork focus and subject matter then turned to Portraits due to the challenge the human face offered but I discovered a natural affinity for capturing the nuances and essence of human expression.  As a result my work evolved to a new level of realism.  Teachers began to appreciate my work and provide encouragement.

Oil painting attracted me because of its limitless creative possibilities.   I began taking classes to learn technique and aesthetics. Feeling restrained by strict “rules” associated with formal training; I decided that my work would be better served if I were self-taught artist.

Today, I live in Webster, NY with my wife Monica, son Alec, daughter Maya and dog Chloe. I have an intense love for my family, art, music, and the mystery of life.

I create oil paintings, drawings and wall murals by commission and from personal inspiration.
